Young racehorses’ recovery
Young horses do not have the same recovery patterns as older horses, even for equal intensity training or between two horses with equivalent fitness. Indeed, young horses have a less efficient heart and must adapt their muscular and neurological systems to the training conditions. They need time to adapt before they can recover properly. The evaluation of recovery in young horses is therefore done differently. How do recovery data differ between young horses and adult horses? How do you assess it?
What link between heart rate and locomotor profile?
Here is the case of a young horse preparing for a Breeze-up sales. He won two 1200m races in three starts, during the end of his 2yo year. The analysis of his data shows a very low heart rate that we will explain thanks to the analysis of his locomotor profile and an ultrasound of his heart.
Muscular physiology in the athletic horse
Muscular physiology in the horse athlete is an important factor to study when interested in his training. Indeed, the muscles participate in various functions essential to the horse’s life (breathing, digestion…) and to its adaptation to the surrounding environment. The muscles are part of the different components that contribute to the performance of the horse athlete as they fulfill locomotion purposes: a horse that is ideally muscled will have a better chance of winning a race.
